You are not taught how to love someone and moreover, you don’t get to learn how to care for someone you love. So,all in all, they don’t teach something worth knowing and fostering. Isn’t it? It was a hot and humid evening in Chennai evening when Yuvraj Singh walked off the field after scoring a splendid century against the West Indies in the final group stage fixture of the 2011 world cup.
The left-hander walked in for a press conference after that match. Yuvraj, wiping off sweat from his forehead, got irritated when somebody mentioned the threat of facing the defending champions Australia in the Quarter Finals.”you can’t be the world champion without defeating the world champion…bring them on,” Yuvi thundered, and in a few days’ time,Yuvraj was seen hammering the Aussie bowlers all around the park at Motera in the high voltage quarter final of the 2011 cricket world cup.
we celebrated when he hit 6 sixes in a row against England’s Stuart Broad, we danced and partied hard when he played a cracker of an innings against Australia in the high voltage semi-final of the 2007 world Twenty-20. Yuvraj was team India’s trump card during the 2011 world cup. The Left hander scored 362 runs and scalped 15 wickets in the tournament and was named the man of the tournament. Four years down the line, the BCCI did not include him in the list of 30 proboables for the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
Yet,on the day of selection, Yuvraj was the talk of the town. MS Dhoni was the force behind Yuvraj Singh’s return to the squad for the 2014 world Twenty-20. Dhoni played Yuvraj in every single game of the tournament and all was going on well, but everything turned upside down in the final against Sri Lanka when the left hander struggled to put bat to ball after India had reached 100 for 2 in 12 overs. India lost the match and Yuvraj Singh was highly criticized by fans and the media for being the biggest reason behind India’s defeat in the final.
The star all rounder from Punjab has been able to defy a few odds after his dismal outing against Sri Lanka in the final. The injury to Ravindra Jadeja and the need of a genuine all rounder up the order once again shifted the spotlight on Yuvraj. Yuvraj has had a prolific Ranji trophy season, scoring 3 consecutive centuries. But the team management and the selection committee thought otherwise. The fact that both Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are left handed batting all rounders has gone against the unlucky Yuvraj Singh.
” This could well may be the end of a spectacular sporting career”
” Just one bad game and the people forget who you are”
The Indian selection committee, on Tuesday(Jan6) announced the 15 man squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup which is to be held in Australia and New Zealand. the veteran Indian all rounder and the 2011 world cup hero Yuvraj Singh was ignored despite making a hat trick of hundreds in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
There were no surprises in the team-the only talking point being that Yuvraj Singh did not make it to the final 15. Regular test opener Murali Vijay was also ignored despite being in the best of forms in the ongoing test series against Australia.Youngsters like Manish Pandey, Varun Aaron, Lokesh Rahul and Dhawal Kulkarni could also not make it to the final 15.
Youngsters like Akshar Patel and Stuart Binny have succeeded in making surprise entries into the 15 man squad. The selectors have gone with an additional all rounder in Stuart Binny. Ravindra Jadeja, who had withdrawn from the test series following a shoulder injury has succeeded in making it to the final 15. the BCCI officials have claimed that the 26 year old all rounder will be back to fitness in a week’s time.
The Batting department will be headed by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina are other batsmen who have been included in the final 15.Furthermore, the selectors have gone with 4 front line seamers in Bhavaneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma. Ravi Ashwin is the only front line spinner in the 15 man squad.
The World cup starts on February 14 with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka in the Opening encounter. Australia will face off against England later on the same day in Melbourne. India will face arch rivals Pakistan in their opening group B encounter on February 15 at the Adelaide Oval.
India have been pooled in group B alongside South Africa, United Arab Emirates,Pakistan,Zimbabwe,Ireland and the West Indies. Can this bunch of hot blooded and passionate youngsters led by MS Dhoni be able to defend India’s World Cup crown in Australia? A lot of surprises are in store.
MS Dhoni’s sudden retirement from the 5 day game has left the Indian think tank in a spot of bother over the ideal playing combination that will take on Australia in the 4th and final test at Sydney. With Dhoni era coming to a sunset and Virat Kohli taking charge, the Indian team has plenty of things to sort out. Continue reading “Virat Kohli has an entire mountain to climb”
