The music within…..

I often wonder, what would life be without music? It would certainly be a very quiet place. Music is, in many ways the fabric of our lives. It is something which gives definition to a society and culture. It is an indication of how things are, and a view of where the society is headed. Music can be a way of delivering messages, a poetic art or simply a source of entertainment.

So, in broader terms, it can be said that music is the direct reflection of the picture of a person’s society and culture. No matter what it is used for, music happens to be the perfect art and our lives would certainly be incomplete without it. Music has movement, because it progresses over a given period of time.

All musical works have a beginning and an inevitable end. However, music does not confine the audience in a way that movies or graphic art does. A listener can create whatever image he wants to while listening to music. Music is an art that appeals to the conscious mind, but the best thing about music happens to be the fact that it appeals to the sub-conscious mind as well. No thought is required to enjoy good music, though it happens to be thought inspiring.

Now, music is something regarding which, every single person is bound to have different opinions. Different people have different taste, and various forms of music have different ways of leaving an impact over the audience. Music can be soothing, energizing, inspiring, all of it at the same time. There are numerous types of music out there today. Rap, pop, country, Indie, classical are a few forms of music which have an incredibly wide listenership. The messages sent out by music can either be good or bad but music certainly determines how people think and act. Two different people having a similar taste in music can strike up a friendship instantly. Frankly, there insn’t a surer foundation for a beautiful friendship than a mutual taste in music.

Rap and rock music two very important types of music in the world. They both send out different messages. The lyrics which are written and sung by rappers are in many ways related to the events and happenings which are going on in the personal lives of the musicians. The listeners, on the other hand, cry to find peace and solace in musical compositions. Music inspires people and makes them realize that there is hope. Music can also serve as a catalyst for new ideas to emerge. When people listen to  new forms of music, they tend to learn new things and become open-minded because they get exposed to different artists and musicians.

A lot of people believe that rap music has a very big impact on the world. Lyrics used by rappers mostly revolve around drugs, alcoholism and commodification of women. These are the topics many parents don’t want their kids being involved in. Many of the music videos created by rappers showcase and rather glorify sensitive topics like sex, drugs and alcoholism. Studies have shown that people who  are more into rap music are addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Well, if we look at music through a critical perspective then we’ll realize that people use music to express themselves, in ways it can’t be expressed through behaviour or art. You can usually tell how someone is feeling by the type of music he or she is listening to at a given point in time. Diverse groups of people from around the world tend to come together at concerts in order to showcase what their talents, cultures and likings are and you can see how many people have similar sort of likings as you.

I can personally relate to the impact that music tends to have on its listeners perhaps because music happens to be an indispensable part of my life. Everyday I listen to the songs of numerous singers and bands with contrasting ideas and opinions. The type of  music I listen to makes me who I am.
