Just a Passing Shower

There’s eternal beauty in your eyes,
but the world thinks it’s nothing more than a lie
I just can’t take my eyes off you
I don’t know why

We stood there (for hours)
And yet, neither of us could speak
However, a few silent whispers did escape your lips
While both of us lay silent, roared aloud the passing
shower

There’s a thread which kept us together
In days bright and sunny, and in inclement weather
As I held your hand, you began to mumble
Right at this moment, our hearts began to crumble
It’s a turmoil, but not a never-ending one

Moist eyes want heat and light
At present,
It’s cold, and it’s white
I could never bear the rays of the sun
“You’re amazing, but let us just be friends”, you
whispered
As you said this, your eyes turned red
I want to tell you what those words did to me
I fell in love with you all over again, can’t you see

Out of the Furnace

Heat, sweat, and fire
All of these are mere illusions
You are the only truth that remains
Your face is a thing of beauty
A volcano erupts,
And countless billabongs begin overflowing

Your eyes, they are colder than the winter rainfall
Nakedness remains the only truth
As sweat rolls down my forehead,
it moistens your cheeks

Fire and water collide, to give rise to steam
An effigy of wax melts, as soon as it is touched
A touch full of ardour, lust, and exuberance
My arms wrapped around your breast
A mystic smell ornamenting your body
Like morning dew on leaves

Your arms and legs wrapped around me,
Much like thick blankets of snow
I can feel your strong legs overpowering me
A few customary murmurs going past our lips

The navel on your stomach,
No less powerful than a sleeping cyclone
And those breasts,
Just like the Andes

I have seen you naked
Not just the flesh, not just the curves,
and not just the scars on your body
But all that lies within
Insecurities, vulnerability, and anger

I know of the memories that haunt you
Of the dark chambers you’ve been through
And the tribulations you hide (try to)
Behind those gleaming eyes

As the heavens open up
A downpour begins
You are like thunder, I am like lightning
Both of us collapse, much like a house on fire
And melt away in each other’s arms
Like a lump of sugar melts away in a child’s mouth

The Distance Between Us

There is something between us
Distance, misunderstanding, and chaos
It’s eating away the happiness we shared
I want you to hold it together,
but you tell me it’s time to say goodbye

Let us, for a moment, just talk
Let us discuss this once
Or else, we’ll regret it once it’s over
Whatever exists between us
Is not redundant
I want you to hold it together,
but you tell me it’s time to say goodbye

Whatever has passed (gone by)
Keeps flashing endlessly before my eyes
Why are you doing this? (I fail to understand)
I want you to hold it together,
but you tell me it’s time to say goodbye
It’s not easy, I know,
but it’s just a passing shower, not a thunderstorm

Let us not let ‘us’ slip out of hand
The distance between us
Is nothing more than time lost
I want you to know
I want to hold it together

Zebunnisa

“What are you?
An illusion, perhaps
Or just a girl, strong and true

I can’t tell
I am incredulous
You are deeper and darker than the well (perhaps)

I am unsure
Of what you really are
A river of sand
A mirage
I see you from afar (just a glimpse)

‘I love you’, I tell you
Your lips are frozen
Something’s untrue

You’ve been amazing, but let us just be friends’, you say
Nothing else is heard
And all of this is absurd

I’m perplexed
Was it a yes?
I don’t know
It was a no, I guess”
